Front-loaders fail in ways top-loaders do not, because everything hangs on a door boot, a drain path and a bearing that carries the whole tub. Odor, a puddle at the front, and a roar on spin are three distinct faults, and only one of them is expensive.

Six boxes, about thirty seconds. You pick when to be called back, and that is when the phone rings.
Or call (813) 722-1409The flexible bellows between the tub and the door frame holds water in during the wash and grit, hair and detergent residue in its folds forever. Three things go wrong with it. It tears, usually at the bottom where an underwire or a coin worked into the fold, and then it leaks only on high water levels. It builds a biofilm and produces the smell people call mildew. And it holds a foreign object that scrapes the glass or blocks the drain path. LG's own support guidance states the mechanism plainly: if the door is kept closed the moisture from washing cannot dry and mold may form inside the door gasket, and it directs owners to empty the tub, open the door and the dispenser, and let the remaining moisture evaporate, with particular attention in summer when it is hot and humid. Its cleaning procedure is monthly, using 5 grams of oxygen bleach diluted in 5 liters of warm water, wiping the gasket and the door glass dry afterward. It also notes that a gasket cleaning visit is chargeable even in warranty, because a dirty gasket is not a product fault. In a climate like this one, that maintenance is the difference between a clean machine and a service call.
These machines wash with a few gallons, so an ordinary dose of detergent produces a foam column instead of a wash. The pressure system reads foam as water, the control extends rinses, and the spin never starts, which arrives as a complaint about draining. Suds also carry residue into the bellows folds and the dispenser housing, where it feeds the odor problem. High-efficiency detergent at the marked dose, reduced further for soft loads, is not a preference. Tampa's mineral content works against you here as well: the city's 2025 water quality report gives average hardness of 211 milligrams per liter, or 12.3 grains per gallon, and hard water makes people add more detergent, not less. The full appliance list is on the services index.
Front corners with a clean bellows usually means the door glass is not seating, from a worn hinge or a bent striker. A puddle under the front center is the drain pump housing, its filter cap or the sump hose. Water at the rear is the inlet valve, its hose fittings, or the standpipe backing up. That last one is a plumbing question with a published dimension: the residential code section on standpipes, P2706.1.2, requires them to extend not less than 18 inches and not more than 42 inches above the trap weir, and a standpipe too short or a trap set below the floor is why a machine that drains fine in the shop floods a laundry closet.
Listen to the spin ramp rather than the wash. A rising metallic roar that tracks drum speed and fades as the drum coasts is the rear tub bearing. Rust weeping below the outer tub, and play when the drum is rocked by hand at the front with the machine unplugged, confirm it. This matters because on many current designs the outer tub is sealed and the bearing is not sold on its own, so the repair is a full teardown or a new tub assembly. That is the point where the quote has to sit next to the price of a comparable new machine instead of being presented alone.
Front-loaders spin fast enough that the floor becomes part of the machine. In the Seminole Heights historic district, roughly 215 acres and 703 buildings with a period of significance from 1912 to 1939, laundry hookups were added to houses built without them, frequently on wood floors over a crawl space or in a converted back porch. On that kind of structure an out-of-level machine or one still carrying its shipping bolts walks, hammers and eventually damages its own suspension. Leveling with a real level at all four feet, and confirming the floor does not flex under a spin, is part of a repair on this appliance, not an afterthought.
Expect the bellows pulled back and inspected all the way around, the drain filter opened, the pump tested electrically and mechanically, the door lock circuit checked, the hoses and standpipe traced, the machine leveled, and the drum spun by hand and under power while the bearing and shocks are assessed. Bellows, pumps, locks, hoses and shock absorbers are ordinary parts-and-labor repairs. Bearing and outer tub work is the one that competes with replacement. If the machine is a top-loader, start at washer repair, and if it lives in a closet under a dryer, see stackable washer and dryer repair.

Call (813) 722-1409City of Tampa records give the Hyde Park local historic district a period of significance of 1886 to 1933 across roughly 367 acres and 1,223 buildings, and the Seminole Heights district 1912 to 1939 across roughly 215 acres and 703 buildings.
Why it matters: Laundry hookups, gas lines, kitchen exhaust ducts and dryer vents in that housing stock were all retrofitted long after construction, which is where undersized circuits and improvised duct runs come from.

The City of Tampa trade permit limitation list updated 11/14/2025 assigns residential gas piping excluding tanks to a plumbing trade permit and electrical rewiring, panel, meter can and riser replacement to an electrical trade permit, with anything beyond the listed limits requiring a building permit and plan review.
Why it matters: It draws the line between an appliance repair and permitted trade work, so a quote can state plainly which side of that line a gas connection or a new laundry circuit falls on.

NOAA engineering weather data for Tampa records 5,093 annual hours meeting its humid-area criterion of wet-bulb temperature above 67°F.
Why it matters: Long humid periods make marginal refrigerator door seals, condensation control, and dryer exhaust performance show up quickly during an appliance inspection.
