A stacked pair is two appliances in a closet built for one, and access is the constraint on every repair. The parts fail the same way they do on a full-size set, but reaching them means unstacking, and that changes both the labor and the order of diagnosis.

Six boxes, about thirty seconds. You pick when to be called back, and that is when the phone rings.
Or call (813) 722-1409Stacked sets come two ways: a true laundry center where washer and dryer share a single cabinet and one control, or a matched front-load pair joined by a stacking kit. The distinction decides everything. On a laundry center a single control board runs both halves, so a dryer that will not start can be a washer-side fault, and a replacement means replacing the whole column. On a stacked pair each machine is independent, each has its own supply, and either can be pulled and serviced on its own. Before anything is unstacked, both supplies get verified, because a dryer sitting dead above a working washer is frequently just its own breaker. The remaining appliance categories are on the services index.
Whirlpool's electric dryer installation instructions call for a separate 30-amp circuit with a 3 or 4 wire, single phase, 120/240 volt, 60 hertz supply, and they instruct owners not to operate the dryer at temperatures below 45 degrees, because at lower ambient temperatures automatic cycles may not shut off and drying times stretch. In a closet the vent is the bigger issue. The transition duct behind a stacked pair has to make its turn in a few inches of clearance, and the standard failure is a crushed or kinked transition that no one can see with the machines in place. A stacked dryer that heats but dries slowly is nearly always airflow, and the test is at the exterior hood rather than at the drum.
A front-loader spinning at speed inside a closet has no room to walk, so a suspension problem announces itself as banging against the walls or against the stacking kit rather than as a machine sliding across a floor. Two findings recur. Shipping bolts left in place on an installation, which transmit every vibration into the cabinet and the structure. And a machine leveled on the wrong reference, since a stack is only as square as the washer under it and an out-of-plumb column loads the stacking brackets. The drain side has a published dimension worth knowing: the residential code section for standpipes, P2706.1.2, requires them to extend not less than 18 inches and not more than 42 inches above the trap weir, and closet installations are where that gets ignored, producing siphoning or backflow that looks like a pump fault.
The Seminole Heights historic district covers roughly 215 acres and 703 buildings with a period of significance from 1912 to 1939, and it was designated locally in 1995 after its National Register listing in 1993. Houses of that era were not built with laundry rooms, so the pair usually ends up in a converted closet, a back porch or a rear addition, with a vent run improvised through a wall that was never designed for one. Three consequences follow: a vent that turns immediately and repeatedly, a floor that flexes under spin, and a door swing that means the appliance cannot come out without removing the door frame trim. All three belong in the estimate, because the labor on a stacked repair is mostly the getting-there.
A stacked dryer is top-heavy and the kit that holds it is designed to resist vibration, not to carry a machine being tilted. The correct sequence is power and gas or vent disconnected, the dryer lifted straight off with two people, set on cardboard, and the stacking brackets inspected for elongated holes before the column goes back together. Bracket hardware that has worked loose is a real finding on a set that has been banging for months, and it is cheap to correct while the machines are apart. Reusing a bent bracket is how a column ends up out of plumb again a week later.
Expect both supplies verified, error codes read from each half, the drain filter and pump checked on the washer, airflow measured at the dryer hood, the transition duct inspected once the machines are separated, the door lock circuit and lid switch tested, the heat circuit and its safety devices measured, and the stacking hardware and leveling corrected on reassembly. The parts are the same parts as on a full-size set. What differs is labor, because a repair that takes forty minutes on a side-by-side pair takes longer when the top machine has to come down first. On a single-cabinet laundry center a failed main control or a bearing is the point where a replacement column competes with the repair, and both figures should appear on the same estimate. For a dryer that heats but will not dry, start with dryer vent cleaning; for a new pair going into a tight space, see washer and dryer installation.

Call (813) 722-1409NOAA engineering weather data for Tampa records 5,093 annual hours meeting its humid-area criterion of wet-bulb temperature above 67°F.
Why it matters: Long humid periods make marginal refrigerator door seals, condensation control, and dryer exhaust performance show up quickly during an appliance inspection.

The City of Tampa reported average finished-water hardness of 211 mg/L, or 12.3 grains per gallon, in its 2025 water quality report.
Why it matters: Mineral scale can affect dishwasher spray paths, filters, valve screens, and water-heating components. A technician checks the water side of the appliance before blaming the machine alone.

Tampa’s 2022 housing data counted 77,745 renter-occupied homes, 49.5% of occupied units, and 70,201 apartment units, 40.58% of all units.
Why it matters: Appliance work often requires coordination with a property manager or association and access through compact utility closets, elevators, gates, or building water-shutoff procedures.
